Congratulations to Brendan and Sarah

Congratulations to two of the PMag-Lab graduate students!

Sarah Strano successfully defended her Ph.D. entitled “North Atlantic Paleomagnetic records” on April 4th 2014. See more of what Sarah does on her page.

Brendan Reilly also recently found out that he is to sail on the upcoming IODP expedition 354 to the Bengal fan as a shipboard paleomagnetist. Leaving at the end of January 2015 Brendan will be away for two months at sea to obtain a Neogene and late Paleogene record of Himalayan orogeny and climate. Look for his posts on this site early next year!

<p>Next week the PMag-Lab in conjunction with the <a href="http://core-repository.coas.oregonstate.edu/">OSU Marine Geology Repository</a> are hosting two researchers from the University of Pittsburg. <a href="http://www.pitt.edu/~alh118/">Aubrey Hillman</a> (Ph.D. student) and <a href="http://instaar.colorado.edu/people/darren-larsen/">Dr. Darren Larsen</a> (Post Doc.), both work with <a href="http://www.pitt.edu/~mabbott1/climate/mark/">Dr. Mark Abbott</a> and are interested in the paleo-environmental record of <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/place/Fish+Lake/@38.5511403,-111.7074038,13644m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x874a52dbe40c46dd:0x555439702e21c704">Fish Lake</a> that PI Joe Stoner and Post Doc. Rob Hatfield along with Dr.s Larsen and Abbott recovered from the southern Wasatch Plateau in Utah in February 2014. Aubrey and Darren will be staying with us for the whole week next week as we split, sample and sample the cores for paleomagnetic and paleoenvironmental analyses. More fun in the mud with the PMag-Lab!</p>
