Alyson Churchill
Ph.D. Student, CEOAS
Education & Positions Held:
B.A., Geology, Colby College (2019)
Ph.D. Ocean, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences, Oregon State University (expected 2024)
Research Interests:
I am interested in using the geochemical signature of marine sediments to investigate past climate perturbations. My graduate research investigates geochemical variability in Columbia River margin sediments and uses non-destructive x-ray fluorescence to create a high-resolution geochemical record since the last glacial period. This project aims to generate insight regarding the past erosional processes and ice sheet dynamics in the Pacific Northwest for the past 20,000 or more years. More broadly, this project intends to further our understanding of temperature ice mass response during both past and present changes in climate.
Other Interests:
As a recent transplant to the Pacific Northwest, I enjoy finding new places in Oregon to explore and hike and love to downhill and cross-country ski wherever I can find snow.
